My condolences to the family of Pastor Steve Dreher. Sarah and Katie. Hello from Thunder Bay.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago far far away :
I was installing a very large picture window in My house in Cochenour. Aided by two pastors and a drunk from across the street way back. Holy!!!
That was Pastor Steve and the finlander. I forget his name And Ziggie Bogensburg from across the street. the latter a bit tipsy. Cut his hand in the process. Ouch.
What I like about Steve Is how he never judged people As per .... let him who is free of sin cast the first stone eh??
That is how one must be to get along with the woodlands folk. "don't remind me of my failures, I have not forgotten them". Jackson Browne.
Humble man always reaching to help whomever is in need. That is Steve. Or my impression of him.
Godspeed old friend. ....
Like a dove released from his Cage.
Fly Away old glory

Steve rest now with your Lord and will see you in Heaven.

Today I sit here and remember, remember a man that was always there to listen, and help in any way that he could. Steve helped me through a very rough time in my life. Will always remember the Bible Studies that we had together, with family and friends. Seemed like it was just yesterday that he was here, flying up North...enjoying what he loved to do. Well Steve now you are with God, and in all of his glory. May you rest in peace...you will be missed terribly. To Sarah & Katie, our thoughts and prayers are with you both as you go through this difficult time.

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ.
ReplyDeleteseven years ago, I walked into a Lutheran Church in a small Colorado mountain town. There I met Steve, Sarah and Katie. I became a member of "The Friendliest Church in Town". It was like a family to me. Today, I'm studying to be a pastor.
I thank God for putting Steve on my path to point me back to the Word, the Light of the World.
Sarah & Katie, I love you and I am praying for you.
The Peace of the Lord be with you always.

My dear friend and precious brother Steve touched my life deeply. It was sheer joy to be around him.The Spirit of God flowed through him.All I know to say is that He has flown into the arms of Jesus His Savior; whom he was pleased to bring to the villages and people he served. To those villagers I've never met, to his fellow workers in LAMP, to all whose lives Steve Dreher touched and especially to Sarah and Katie;be lifted up; keep lifting Jesus up until we all fly home to be with Steve and especially with the Lord Jesus he loves with all his heart.
ReplyDeleteI was privileged to talk with Steve about a year ago when my church was exploring mission opportunities. His dedication to and enthusiasm for LAMP and Our Lord was evident in the conversation. My heart breaks for Katie and Sarah, and I pray for their peace.

I flew with Steve on his last afternoon here on earth.
ReplyDeleteWe left Salida, CO about 1:30 PM and flew to Alamosa in my plane to pick up the LAMP Skymaster after its annual inspection. A beautiful day to fly, no clouds, light winds, unlimited visibility.
Steve was in good spirits and finishing up the logbook entries when I left to return to Salida.
He took off a little after 4:00PM. We will all miss him.

I am so sad today! I couldn't believe the headline I was reading. I have a canoe hanging in my garage that my dear friend in Christ gave me many years ago out of his back yard. I loved our circuit pastoral retreats in Red Lake with him so many years ago. God bless all the Lamp ministry and his family. "Blessed are those who mourn... for they shall be comforted." Praise the Lord for His grace and mercy on our lives and the beautiful promise of our heavenly home.

ReplyDeleteDear Sarah and Katie,
ReplyDeleteGreetings in the Lord!
We have not had the pleasure of meeting you, but we had the distinct privilege of meeting your beloved late husband and father, our beloved Pastor Pilot and LAMP Missionary "Pastor Steve". For the first time in our then five year ministry to the people of Pikwitonei, Manitoba in August 2009he flew us up all the way from a small airport close within a half-hour drive from our home to "Pik", home of the shortest airstrip in northern Manitoba (about a 3-hour flight). This was of great help to us since the train service into Pik was particularly unreliable that year. Although only in the community for about half an hour he got a whirwind tour, snapping photos all over and marvelling at its beauty and cleanliness. His blog post about Pik in Aug. 2009 bears eloquent witness to that visit.
This past August while conducting one of our VBS sessions at St. Mark's Church in Pik we heard a knock on the door. Low and behold, it was Pastor Steve who flew all the way from Red Lake, Ontario (significantly further from Pik than our home in Winnipeg) to simply visit us and support us in our ministry! We delighted in his company. Unlike two years before, he could spend some quality time with us over a simple lunch of bannock, hummus, carrot sticks, and tea.
We last saw Pastor Steve about a week later at a favourite restaurant in our hometown of Winnipeg. There we once again broke bread (actually, a chicken, tomato and cheese pizza, which he greatly enjoyed) in thanksgiving for our friendship in the Lord and God's loving presence in our lives. We are still reeling from the tragic news of his untimely death. We are experiencing difficulty in coming to terms with it; we cannot imagine what you must be going through right now. We found Pastor Steve to be an inspiration in bringing the Good News wherever he went. We will miss him terribly. We find strength and consolation to carry on our ministry by his dedicated example.
As the Brazilian theologian Leonardo Boff wrote in his "Way of the Cross-- Way of Justice"(1980), "Human beings are not born to die; they die to be resurrected." May God grant Pastor Steve's memory to be eternal!
Peace,
Howard & Esther

I shall always remember this special man as one who knew grace, and who devoted himself to helping others find and feel it. I trust that his wife, daughter, family and friends will find solace in the knowledge that his work was important to many and that his ability to share the beauty of life a gift that will stay with us always.
ReplyDeletePastor Steve was loved by my family and the LAMP family too.
ReplyDeleteI cherish and thank God for every moment that I was able to spend with him.
Jesus said: Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God: trust also in me.
……. I am going to prepare a place for you. John 14
Our Lord took our dear Pastor Steve home but God did not abandon us.
I have seen God’s touch as he reached out to all of us that mourn.
So we go forward inspired by the life and ministry of Pastor Stephen Dreher lovingly sharing the touch of God that comes through faith in our Lord Jesus who is our hope in life eternal.

Chuck and I are praying for God's comfort to surround Sarah and Katie in a mighty way. We knew Steve when we were on staff with LAMP in La Ronge, SK 1990, 1997-99. We know he will be greatly missed by many. May the peace of God surround all those who have been touched by his sudden home-going.
